1419 Christopher Columbus, was an Italian explorer for Spain and landed in Americas. He was looking for a faster and safer route to Asia.
1519, Pineda mapped the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and became the first European to observe the Texas coast. Some of his men were arrested by Hernan Cortes.
1519 Hernan Cortes, Cortes arrived to present day Mexico and found the Aztecs, who viewed them as gods because of their horses, armor and firearms. Soon, they overthrew the Aztecs , taking their gold and their land making a mainland for operations and making Spain rich.
1528 Cabeza De Vaca, and several other men were shipwrecked on Galveston Island and were given shelter and food by the Karankawas. During 1528 - 1536, Cabeza De Vaca and other men traveled across Texas from tribe to tribe. Using their knowledge and skills, they helped other tribes who are sick, trying to remain friendly with them. They also, told stories about the city of gold, Cibola.
1526 Cabeza De Vaca and more 1000 men went in search for the city but, never found the city of gold. Yet, they found the Grand Canyon, Pacific Ocean, and explored the present-day Kansas.
1648 La Salle, explored the length of the Mississippi River and established a colony on the mouth of the Mississippi River. In 1685, he shipwrecked at Matagorda Bay and in 1687, La Salle was murdered by a remaining soldier on their way back to Canada.
