  • "I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time again!"
  • Conflict
  • "But I didn't steal anything! I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time! The shoes hit me in the head while I was walking home one day. It's all because of my no-good, dirty-rotten, pig-stealing, great, great, grandfather! He put a curse on my family and I!
  • "Jail or 18 months of Camp Green Lake.""Vacancies don't last long at Camp Green Lake."
  • "I can't imagine what kind of horrible person would steal from a homeless shelter."
  • Rising Action
  • This is all because of my no-good, dirty-rotten, pig-stealing, great, great, grandfather!
  • ----- Stanley Yelnats IV
  • "This isn't a Girl Scouts Camp."
  • This is the beginning of the story Holes. We are introduced to our main character, Stanley Yelnats IV, when he is supposedly "stealing" a pair of sneakers. The story takes place in Texas. He says that this only happened because "he was in the wrong place, at the wrong time." Police officers soon caught Stanley and arrested him, because they thought he was stealing the sneakers of the famous baseball player, Clyde Livingston. In this part, we are also introduced to the Yelnat's family curse that was placed upon them many years ago. The curse is said to have brought the family very bad luck.
  • Climax
  • "We found the treasure!"
  • "We did it!"
  • In this scene, Stanley is taken to court and questioned about the stolen sneakers. Clyde Livingston also showed up to the court and disapproved everything Stanley had said. The judge thinks Stanley is guilty, and makes him choose between jail, or 18 months at Camp Green Lake. In the end, Stanley chooses the camp because he thinks it will be a normal summer camp. This scene also tells us that the Yelnat's family curse is the antagonist, and causes lots of probloms.
  • Resolution
  • "Let's get you guys home!"
  • Stanley Yelnats IV was falsely accused of stealing a pair of sneakers. He blames that this all happened because of the curse that his "no-good, dirty-rotten, pig-stealing, great, great, grandfather" brought upon himself and his family. The family curse brings bad luck to him and his family. Stanley was given the choice of jail, or Camp Green Lake in Texas. He chose Camp Green Lake for 18 months. He got on a bus and was taken to the camp, where he got off and met Mr. Sir.
  • Denouement
  • "The commercials on!"
  • "Sploosh!"
  • This scene shows Stanley and Zero digging up the Yelnat's lost treasure in a hole from many years ago. When they dug this up, they broke the second curse, the curse that was over Camp Green Lake. Shortly after this, Stanley and Zero are picked up by Stanley's lawyer, Ms. Morengo and taken home.
  • The story's main problems are solved at this point. Stanley and Zero were both freed from Camp Green Lake, and were on their way home, thanks to Stanley's lawyer "Ms. Morengo". Stanley and his family's curse has been solved by Stanley carrying Zero up God's Thumb. The town of Camp Green Lake's curse was solved when Stanley and Zero dug up Stanley's family's stolen treasure. When this curse was solved, the first drop of rain in many years, landed on Camp Green Lake.
  • "Woohoo!"
  • "It's raining!"
  • "That's me, Sweet Feet!"
  • This is the last scene. The "happily ever after" is Stanley and Zero making it back home, opening the treasure chest, and buying new houses with the money they got. Zero was able to find his mother, and reunite with her. Clyde Livingston became good friends with Stanley, once he found out Stanley was truly innocent of the crimes. In the end, they all get together and watch Clyde Livingston's commercials about "Sploosh", which Stanley's father invented while Stanley was at camp.
