  • On Christmas night 1776, George Washington and his men crossed the Delaware River to get to Trenton.
  • The Hessians were caught off guard by Washington's forces and were in retreat.
  • The Hessians lost the battle and were forced to surrender to Washington
  • The British fleet landed in the shores of Gravesend Bay, which was a few miles away from Manhattan.
  • The British attacked the Americans on the Guan Heights, and William Howe brought his army around the rear and surrounded Washington's forces.
  • Washington's troops were driven completely out of New York and into New Jersey after the loss at Long Island.
