Marcellus, Horatio, and Barnardo stand in shock after seeing the ghost of King Hamlet. They demand he says something, but he soon disappears as a rooster crows.
King Claudius and Queen Gertrude tell Hamlet he needs to get over his father's death , stop grieving, wearing black, and accept his new step dad. they try to tell him to move on from it.
Horatio, Barnardo, and Marcellus explain to Hamlet how they saw his father in ghost form in detail. Hamlet asks many questions and is confused as to how this is happening.
Laertes and Ophelia are talking about their love life's. Laertes warns her not to be with Hamlet because they will never work out because of his duty to the royal family. Their father, Polonius, enters afterward and he has Laertes leave out and he explains to Ophelia that he's against her being with Hamlet as well.
King Hamlet's ghost appears in front of Hamlet. He asks Hamlet to avenge his death, for his brother, Claudius, murdered him by poison and then seduced his queen. Hamlet swore from then that he'd avenge his father's death.
Hamlet tells Horatio and Marcellus to promise to never tell anyone what they had saw that night no matter what. They were confused but eventually agreed to it.
