  • Northern Free States: Feelings about state additions?
  • For sure, slavery is unacceptable!
  • As long as the states stay free, additions are fine. However, no adding a slave state.
  • The 36-30' line is a good compromise because we get the most land, and slavery is illegal above the  line!

  • But it's still allowed below it...

  • I amended the Fugitive Slave Act and abolished slavery in Washington D.C.! -Clay
  • I delivered a speech against slavery called the Seventh of March Speech -Webster
  • I support Clay and Webster despite partisan differences. - Douglas
  • Northerners supported the addition of free states, but they didn't want to unbalance the number of free vs. slave states in favor of slave states.

  • Did you hear the news? Missouri and Maine are being added to the state!
  • Northerners liked the 36-30' line because they got the most land out of the deal, but they didn't like that slavery could continue below the line.
