I am Peter the Great...
Peter the Great was born on June 9, 1672 in Moscow, Russia to Alexis of Russia and Natalya Naryskina. He was a Russian Orthodox Christian. Peter's father died when he was just 4 years old. Peter was a very tall person he was 6'8".
During Peter's reign he declared war against Sweden. It was called The Great Northern War and it was from 1700-1721. He wanted to gain territory and to gain control over the Baltic Sea.
Peter the Great reformed the Russian Orthodox Church. He abolished the head of the church and set up a group (Holy Synod) that ran the church under his orders.
Peter the Great also reformed the government. He tried to modernize Russia. He modernized the military, government, behavior, and appearance.
Peter introduced potatoes to the Russians, started Russia's first newspaper, raised women's status, changed peoples fashion, and advanced education by opening a school of navigation and introduced schools for the arts and sciences.
Peter the Great is considered an absolute ruler because he increased power of the central government and helped to make Russia strong.
