FARMING AND RAILROADS
Cattle Why was there a national market for beef, and how did demand affect the Texas cattle? Demand for beef had outspaced supply in the Northeast. But the demand for cattle was greater than the demand for beef and the cattle population was decreasing because the civil war. Therefore, the cattle population was still decreasing but just not as fast.
Oil Describe what life was like in the oil fields. Many people are up late at night pumping oil on the streets. This affected the price of oil so they were working for less money. Also they work super hard.
Railroads and Farming: What are some advantages of railroads over other types of transportation in Texas? There were many problems with shipping the goods on a ship or boat. One of the major problems was that most of the Texans rivers were very shallow or just really unreliable. Also, the dirt roads would get muddy and wet to drive on which was far to dangerous. As a result, moving people and goods were just too time consuming and expensive. But o the other hand railroads and trains promised fast, reliable,cheap transportation. It was very cheap for railroads to travel people.
