  • "Five score years ago , a great American in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation." (King).
  • Pathos
  • " I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls." (King).
  • Logos
  • " America has given the negro people a bad check, a check that has come back marked insufficient funds." (King).
  • King means that president Abraham Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation. He was a great hero for the Americans and he was against slavery. Which is what this speech is about, that's his dream. To end slavery.
  • Ethos
  • "This note was promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men." (King).
  • King is stating that his dream in the future is that all men and women will come together and put aside their differences. King wants all of the blacks and whites to become friends and stop separating eachother because of their skin color.
  • Pathos
  • " I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."  (King).
  • King means that Americans have not been treating the Negros as they should be treated. Ever man should be treated the same, with respect. Every women should be treated the same, with respect, no matter the color of their skin.
  • Logos
  • "We cannot walk alone. And as we walk we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back." (King).
  • King states in this sentence that the emancipation proclamation was created and signed for the white men and the black men. In fact, it was created for all men and women. It was created for every human being in the world.
  • King wants his kids to grow up in a community were they wont be judged by their skin color, but by how they treat other people. He doesn't want his kids to live life like other blacks did.
  • King is saying that we must stick together if we want to get through anything. We have ti stick together. He is saying that we can't go back to the way things were, he won't allow it.
