Storyboard Text

  • The 6 year old asks her "dad" & "mom" if she can get a book to read since she is now able to read, but they don't think she needs to read.
  • Why would you need a book when you have a TV to get your information from?
  • Dad, can you please buy me a book?
  • NO! You can sit here & watch tv with me & your mom!
  • She is determined to start reading, so she takes it on herself to walk all across town to get to the library.
  • Hi. I would like to check out some books, please. Preferably from the young adult section.
  • When she gets to the library for the first time, the librarian is surprised to see such a young girl at the library. As the girl continues to go to the library, the old librarian is eager to help her choose books to read.
  • Hello there, little girl. What can I help you with?
  • When she tells her parents, he dad yanks the book from her hand and throws it.
  • Look mom & dad! I went to the library & got a book!
  • WHAT DID WE TELL YOU?! A young girl like you does not need to be reading!
  • She goes to her room and opens the book. A tear drops on the page. She wonders why her parents don't want her to read.
  • Then she makes a very thought through decision.
  • She enrolls herself into school so she can read all she wants & walks 4 days a week by herself to the 1st grade.
