Water was the most important necessity during a drive. A Longhorn could drink up to 30 gallons of water a day. Without plenty of fresh water, the cattle became irritable and would stampede. The Texas cowboy admired the Longhorn because it fought him.
They encouraged trade between Texas and Mexico by running lines to the Mexican border and it affected the population by substantial numbers therefore making the city a BOOM CITY.
The Lucas gusher at Spindletop, January 10, 1901. This was the first major gusher of the Texas Oil Boom. Spindletop is a salt dome oil field located in the southern portion of Beaumont, Texas in the United States.
