  • Water was the most important necessity during a drive. A Longhorn could drink up to 30 gallons of water a day. Without plenty of fresh water, the cattle became irritable and would stampede. The Texas cowboy admired the Longhorn because it fought him.
  • They encouraged trade between Texas and Mexico by running lines to the Mexican border and it affected the population by substantial numbers therefore making the city a BOOM CITY.
  • The Lucas gusher at Spindletop, January 10, 1901. This was the first major gusher of the Texas Oil Boom. Spindletop is a salt dome oil field located in the southern portion of Beaumont, Texas in the United States.
