  • How should I fix what I started with the Capitol?
  • I really appreciate Gail leaving me alone as I go through the ruins of my old home.
  • It's not your fault.
  • I feel like everything going on right now is my fault and everything is spiraling out of control.
  • "How else can I orient myself in this sea of gray?" Page 1 This quote is talking about how the main character, Katniss, is having trouble fitting back into society after the Hunger Games and seeing the ruins of her home, District 12.
  • You have to do what you have to do to stay alive.
  • I really feel bad about what I did to those people in the area. They had their whole lives ahead of them.
  • Life can be hard when you are being targeted by the capitol.
  • "Some walks you have to take alone." Page 5 This quote is talking about how sometimes you have to experience some things by yourself and how you can do things without others, especially emotional things, like vising your house in ruins.
  • I wish that sometimes I would be able to be killed by the Capitol, then it would be easier.
  • "It was my arrow, aimed at the chink in the force field surrounding the arena, that brought on this firestorm of retribution. That sent the whole country of Panem into chaos." Page 6 This talks about how Katniss has had caused all of the problems with some the Capitol and the reason for the wars have been her fault.
  • I have got to go save Peeta! If not he will most likely not like me as much if I don't try to save his life.
  • "Oh, no. It costs a lot more than your life. To murder innocent people?" says Peeta. Page 23"It costs everything you are." This quote talks about how Peeta feels so bad about having to kill people.
  • "Result in his torture. But not his death, no, nothing so merciful as that." Katniss, page 98. Katniss is wishing death on her friend Peeta out of his misery by killing him.
  • There's a chance that the old Peeta, the one who loves you, is still there. Primrose, page 100. Peeta has been taken in my the capitol and Katniss is worried that he will not love her anymore if she doesn't go save him.
