  • Character vs. Character
  • "Honey, you never say nothing new. I listen to you everyday, every night and every morning, and you never say nothing new."
  • "I'm trying to talk to you 'bout myself and all you can say is eat them eggs and go to work."
  • Something is wrong. Our relationship is not the same as it used to be.
  • "The only thing worst than white rich people, is black rich people."
  • Character vs. Self
  • George Murchison: Rich and can provide for a family However, he has a snobby family.
  • Joseph Asagai: Has a sense of humor and really cares about Beneatha.  He is not filthy rich, but he isn't poor either.
  • Character vs. Self
  • Ruth
  • Have the baby. Things are bad at home but murder is never the answer. This isn't what we believe in. We will make it like we always have.
  • Don't listen to her. Do you actually think having this child is a smart idea? If you have the baby it will just be a burden. Get rid of it while you can.
  • Walter: "I'm trying to talk to you 'bout myself and all you can say is eat them eggs and go to work."  Ruth: "Honey, you never say nothing new. I listen to you everyday, every night and every morning, and you never say nothing new."
  •    Character vs Character
  • According to Ruth their relationship had become dry and Walter constantly brings up the same conversation. They love each other, but after working long hours of jobs that don't pay off than coming home to a worn down house, where everywhere is a bedroom, it becomes hard to stay positive. So, Walter and Ruth are both tired of their lifestyle and they take it out on each other.
  • Beneatha is currently going out with two guys. One of them is filthy rich, but she knows he is not the one. However, if she went with him  she would not have any problems relating with money anymore. The other one seems to like sarcasm and ticks Beneatha off sometimes.  Asagai seems to really care for her. He likes her for her and believes she shouldn't mess with her hair and change it up. Although, the choice is clear Beneatha is still going out with both of them.
  • Beneatha: "Honey, you never say nothing new. I listen to you everyday, every night and every morning, and you never say nothing new."
  • Character vs Self
  • Mama: Have the baby. Things are bad at home but murder is never the answer. This isn't what we believe in. We will make it like we always have.
  • Character vs Self
  • Ruth is having a conflict within herself about what to do with the child. Her mother in law is disgusted with the idea of an abortion and says "we a people who give children life, not who destroy your child" and her husband did not think she was serious. However, Ruth is afraid that having this child will cause more of a money issue. The child would be another mouth to feed and provide for. She just want's to do what is best for her family.
