Kino and his family lives a quiet life out in Mexico. Even though they are poor they were happy.
After Coyotito was stung by a scorpion, Kino took him to the doctors. Since they didn't have enough money for treatment, Kino went out to the sea to find a valuable pearl.
With the pearl, Kino would be able to afford an education for Coyotito. He was hoping to sell it for a large sum of money to the traders. However,he was getting scammed by the dealers.
The pearl was thought to be cursed. An intruder came to steal the pearl and Kino attacked him. Juana instruct Kino to abandon the pearl as it was the reason for their misfortune.
Kino and Juana decided to flee to the capital after their house was burnt down. A group of trackers were looking for them.
One of the hunter shot Coyotito and he was dead. Kino realized that the pearl didn't bring any good. With all his might, Kino threw the pearl back to the sea.
