  • Interphase
  • Prophase
  • Metaphase
  • During interphase, cellular organelles double, DNA duplicates, and protein is synthesized.
  • Anaphase
  • During prophase, chromosomes become visible, the nuclear envelope and nucleolus disappears, and the mitotic spindle forms.
  • Telophase
  • During metaphase, the microtubules of the spindle attach and the chromosomes line up on the metaphase plate.
  • Cytokinesis
  • Each sister chromatid of a chromosome has spindle fibers attached to it. These spindle fibers begin to shorten and pull the sister chromatids apart at the centromere.
  • The sister chromatids reach opposite poles. The small nuclear vesicles in the cell begin to re-form around the group of chromosomes at each end.
  • Cytoplasm splits in two and the cell divides.
