  • We need to make an army to fight the British! George Washington would be a great leader!

  • We've run out of gunpowder!
  • On the second meeting of the Continental Congress, John Adams proposed an idea. He proposed to make an army, a continental army. And he suggested that George Washington would be the leader of that army. They unanimously agreed.
  • Israel Putnam and the militiamen crude a fort on top of Breed's Hill. William Howe ordered a attack against them with army men. They marched up to meet the American militiamen.
  • They fought and fought. At the end, the Americans had run out of gunpowder and had to pull back from the attack. More than 1000 British troops were injured or killed, while around nearly half that many Americans. A war had begun.
