  • Rising Action
  • Adams... Bentham... Delacroix...
  • It was June 27th, and the little old town was having their annual lottery, with same old black box. The way it worked was each head of the household went up to draw.
  • Climax
  • Something wasn't right with this lottery though...everyone seemed to be nervous about who would "win".
  • Falling Action
  • Each head of the household went up to draw from the box. Adams....Betham...Delacroix...until everyone had drawn. Everyone waited to open their paper nervously. Then one had the black dot.
  • Resolution
  • Mr. Hutchinson was the "lucky winner". That meant that every member in their household would now have to draw. Mr. Hutchinson's wife (Tessie) wasn't going down without a fight. However, all of the Hutchinsons would have to draw.
  • It wasn't fair!
  • Each member of the Hutchinson family opened their slip of paper fearful about what would happen next. Tessie was the one with the black dot in the center of her paper.
  • NOOOO!!!!
  • Everyone moved towards Tessie holding stones in their hands. Then all at once, Tessie was stoned to death. She had been the "winner".
