Storyboard Text

  • So we've declared our independence from Britain with the Declaration of Independence...
  • And the Articles of Confederation are really not working out.
  • We should call for a convention to rewrite something new. But we have to keep it quiet.
  • What about both?
  • In my Virginia Plan, each state gets a certain number of votes based on population.
  • When passing laws, how do we decide how much say each state gets?
  • In my New Jersey Plan, every state has equal say in legislation.
  • What a Great Compromise!
  • What if we count them as 3/5 to make everyone happy.
  • Us Southern States say YES.
  • What about slaves? Should they be counted as part of the population?
  • Us Northern States say NO.
  • Another compromise!
  • Legislative branch will make the laws. And the Executive branch should consist of a leader.
  • And the Judicial branch will interpret the laws and make sure this Constitution is followed
  • How should our government be set up?
  • We should split up the power into three different branches.
  • And they should be able to keep each other in check and make sure each branch isn't doing something that they shouldn't be doing.
  • Us Federalists think that the Constitution does not need the Bill of Rights.
  • Should we have a Bill of Rights in our Constitution?
  • Us Anti-Federalist think the Constitution needs to list our guaranteed rights out in order to protect them.
  • Sounds fair to us!
  • Now, in order to ratify this, we need 9 out of the 13 states to agree.
