Once upon a time in Cuba, a man named Fidel Castro decided he would overthrow the Cuban Government via Guerrilla warfare, toppling Batista and instating a Communist Cuban Government.
Got 'em!!! Commies for the win!
Originally, Castro and the United States were on decent terms, meeting to discuss many matters. Castro even promised fair elections would take place.
However, the United States Government was not fond of Castro and ordered the Bay of Pigs invasion in April 1961 with several thousand Cuban refugees without Government support. The invasion failed and was an embarassment for incumbent President John F. Kennedy.
At this point, Castro needed allies, and received such in the form of Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev. They formed a very good relationship, with the Soviets even attempting to store missiles in the region.
The President at the time, John F. Kennedy, was not happy about Castro's new alliance with the Soviet Union and Khrushchev. He decided to take an aggressive and risky step by issuing a naval bloackade around Cuba and demanding the Soviets withdraw the missiles from Cuba.
Kennedy and Khrushchev discuss further and eventually reach an agreement. The Soviets will remove the missiles from Cuba under UN Supervision, and the US will remove missiles placed in Italy and Turkey. THE WORLD IS SAVED!
