Once upon a time, Aegeus, the king of Athens, had a son with his wife Aethra. Aegeus told Aethra to raise him in the countryside and send him to Athens when he was strong.
When Aegeus's son Theseus was strong enough, he retrieved the sword and sandals his father left for him. He then headed to Athens to finally meet his father.
When Aegeus met his son, he was ecstatic. Theseus soon learned about a ritual where 14 Athenians were sent to Crete to be sacrificed to the minotaur. Half-man, half-bull.
After learning this, Theseus immediately volunteered to go to Crete so he could defeat the minotaur, and end the vicious cycle.
I will kill the minotaur!
Theseus found the Minotaur sleeping in the labrynth. He threw a rock at it to wake it up, and then defeated it.
When Theseus returned to Athens, he was rewarded with becoming the leader of the city. The Minotaur was defeated, and Athens was in peace.
