2 months have passed since we last saw Damien. When he was kicked out of the army, he went back home, only to be rejected by his father for being a failure. He tried multiple times to explain what happened to the Commander, but to no avail. He's homeless, hungry, and tired. He's become a beggar on a desert road, and isn't able to get by.
One day while in a forest, an old man approaches him and starts screaming at him. He calls Damien a liar, he says he's been claiming he was treated unfairly.
The old man's yelling has started to draw a crowd, and unbeknownst to anyone the king of the city is listening in. With every word he gets angrier and angrier with Damien.
The King asks the man if what he says is true, the man swears on the gods it is. The King believes the man, and decides Damien must be punished.
The King decides Damien must be put to death for his crimes. He is so disgusted by Damien he draws his sword and stabs Damien right through the chest.
With his dying breath, Damien realizes he shouldn't have taken that time. He was there all along, but just refused to move. He chooses, to accept his death, though he doesn't have much choice.
