  • After the Giver reveals to Jonas what release really means (The Ultimate Boon) he instantly lashes out in angry saying over and over again "You can't take me home!" (Refusal of the Return). So after a debate the Giver and Jonas plan a grand escape to get Jonas out of the community. Although Jonas wants the Giver to come, the Giver refuses because he has to help the community get over the loss of Jonas. The plan was to be carried out at night when the night crew would not be out, but he could not stop by the Giver's office for more memories of courage and strength because of an extra part of the plan. It started the day before the plane was supposed to take place around dinner time when Jonas's father explained that the new child Gabriel was going to be released. Because of this, Jonas brought the new child along with him (The Magic Flight). After a long while of biking it became day and search planes were sent after Jonas and the small new child. They managed to escape the range of the planes and continue there adventure to the"Elsewhere". Things started out well with them avoiding capture but soon it would get snowy and cold and the also ran out of food. Jonas was running out of memories of courage and strength which started to make him become weaker and weaker. He had to use memories of food to get them the strength they needed (The Rescue from Without). After the long Journey though Jonas had become very weak, and started to lose consciousness every time he walked. He now knew that his journey is coming to an end. He climbs a hill falling a couple of times in the process. Then he finds a sled. Gets on it. Then slides down the hill with little Gabe in his arms and reaches his final singing destination of the ELSEWHERE (The Crossing or Return Threshold).
