  • Submarines during the civil war were built small and they were steam powered.
  • The confederates constructed the first successful submarine.

  • After The Hunley sunk the USS Housatonic, it sunk with it on Feburary 17, 1864
  • The Hunley sunk it's first ship off the coast of Charleston Bay
  • Submarines were used to sink enemy ships.
  • Submarines would sink the enemy ships by placing a bomb on the side of enemy ships.
  • Even though the American Civil War was a long time ago, we still use the same Naval technology except its a little but more advanced.
  • Submarines helped our nation because we discovered a new way of fighting and it didn't necessarily have to be on land.
  • This information helps us understand how submarines were used.
  • They are typically large resells with a high number of crew. Nuclear submarines may have a crew of over 100.
