  • Oracle warns of the murderer of Laius
  • Creon: “Oh King! The oracle says that the murderer of Laius is cursed!”
  • Teiresias accuses Oedipus of murder
  • Teiresias: “YOU are the murderer of Laius!”
  • Jocasta recounts the death of Laius
  • Jocasta: “Laius was killed on a road...”
  • Oedipus would not have begun his search of his crime if the Oracle had not brought it up
  • The messenger reveals the truth
  • Messenger: "Polybos has died! Come be our king!"
  • The accusation against Oedipus causes him to become angry and go even deeper into the search
  • The story unfolds
  • Herdsmen:  "I can't murder this baby!"
  • If Jocasta had not retold the story, Oedipus would not have begun to see a clear connection between the murder and himself.
  • Prophecy fufilled
  • Oedipus: "My eyes!"
  • The messenger was the one who began to fully connect Oedipus to the truth
  • Messenger: "Oh, I used to be a shepherd. Polybos wasn't your dad..."
  • The truth is now undeniable. Oedipus was the child of Jocasta and survived his death. 
  • Oedipus is unable to avoid his fate
