  • I don't believe it!!!!!
  • Keller, Keller!Helen can't hear or see!Look at her!!!
  • I had my doubts at first but I like her.
  • I don't know how a partially blind Yankee school girl is suppose to teach Helen.
  • Helen had an acute congestion and was very sick.On the doctors last visit he said that she has recovered and Helen would be fine. Helen's parents Captain Keller and Kate were relieved that Helen was going to be fine. After the doctor had left Kate started to play with Helen and talk to her.Kate realized that the baby could not hear her nor see her. Kate yells for captain Keller to tell him what had happened. What Helen had was not what the doctor diagnosed her with.
  • I took all afternoon and the dinning room is a mess but we finally achieved something.
  • Miss Annie you have done so well with my Helen.
  • After 6 years Helen has had no help by anyone and her actions are very different than a "normal" child. She is unable to make any type of understandable sounds.Aunt Eve (Helen's aunt) suggested to contact Dr. Chisholm who could possibly help Helen.Captain Keller says no at first but then said that he would write to the doctor.Annie Sullivan is the one that was sent to teach Helen.James and Kate went to go get Annie from the train station and at first Kate was doubting Annie because of how young she was but by the time they got back to the Keller home stead she had changed her mind on how well she thought Annie would do and how well she liked Annie. After they got back to the Keller's house Annie went to the porch to meet Helen and when Captain Keller sees her he also doubts her and thinks she is a little harsh based on how Annie acts with Helen on the porch.
  • (sigh) Yes, but it isn't enough. She still doesn't understand that things have a name.
  • Annie took Helen up to her room and get started on teaching Helen.Annie gave Helen a doll that a couple of little girls from the Perkins Institute gave Helen as a gift.Annie wants to teach Helen how to communicate using an alphabet for the blind called sign language which you do by shaping your hands into different signs.Annie spells doll in sign language into Helen's hands and then Helen does the same.Helen has just learned her first word.Annie spells cake into Helen's hand then gives her a piece of cake.
  • Wah-Wah Wah-Wah
  • Annie has found out that Helen does not have manners and is always coodled by her mother when she does something rong or she throws a fit.Helen is never diceplined and always gets her way.Annie does not let Helen do what she wants and takes Helens hand away from ehr plte because she wants to teach Helen how to eat from her own plate.Helen is always allowe to pick around in every ones plate because thats the only way to have a conversation.Annie tells everyone to get out so that Annie can teach Helen one on one.The first she tries to tach Helen is to eat from her own plate and Annie is succesful with that. She also taches Helen to eat from a spoon and fold her napkin.Teh dinning room is a mess afrte Annie is doen teaching Helen. When they come ot of the house Annie tells Kate about the progress they madeand kate is very pleased with what Annie has done.
  • After what happened in the dining room Helen doesn't like Annie and it is hard for Annie to teach her because Helen doesn't like to be disciplined and Annie is the only one who disciplines her. Annie comes with an idea to try and get Helen to tolerate her so Annie can teach Helen. Annie says that Helen should live with her alone in a garden house because Annie can't teach Helen without her letting Annie get near her.Kate and Captain Keller say that they can only be in the garden house for two weeks.Annie thinks that it won't be enough time but she takes the offer anyway. After two weeks Kate and Keller come to the garden house and are amazed at how different Helen is.She is well behaved and doesn't look dirty or disorganized. Helen has good manners when she is eating and her parents are very pleased with Annie's progress. Annie however doesn't feel the same way.Helen still doesn't understand that things have a name.
  • You have turned her into a nice young lady with manners. You have done more than enough for us Annie.
  • When everyone is eating in the dining room back at the Keller's after two weeks Helen is doing a good job at being behaved. Then Helen's napkin falls and Annie notices. At first she thinks it might have been an accident but when Helen does it again Annie knows that it is on purpose.Annie wants to take Helen out to punish her but her parents step in just like Annie was afraid they would do but then James stands up to Keller and says that Annie is right. When Annie and Helen are outside they go to the pump so Helen can fill up a pitcher of water. As Helen is doing that Annie is spelling the word water into Helen's hand. All of a sudden Helen starts to say wah-wah.Two weeks earlier Kate was telling Annie that when Helen was very young before her illness she said wah-wah for water.Annie realized that Helen finally understood that thing have a name. After that Helen started running around and touching every thing and putting out her hand for Annie to spell.Annie had just made a miracle with Helen.
