When Mughals power crumbled, India and it's people became fragmented. They fought and disliked each other.
Britain decided to use their weakness to their advantage and exploit it. This was how they planned to conquer India.
As a result of India's people being divided, they were not able to come together and unite to stop the British. So Britain successfully conquered them
The British tried to convert Indians to Christianity, as they felt it was a superior religion. They also imposed many other social changes on the Indian people.
Then, during the 1850's, the British made many moves that made the Indian people unhappy. Many Indians believed that the moves being made were an attempt to undermine their religion.
As a result to all of that was happening, angry sepoys (Indian people forced to serve the British army), rose up and rebelled against their British officers. Sepoys brutally massacred British people.
