Storyboard Text

  • Russia in WWI
  • Our military is weak.
  • The February Revolution, 1917
  • We demand change! We demand change! We demand change!
  • Bolshevik Revolution, 1917
  • So long as the state exists, there will be no freedom. When there is freedom , there will be no state!
  • Russia was not prepared to fight in WW1. During the war, they lost about 9 million soldiers- nearly 15% of Russia's total population. WW1 only further proved (after the Russo-Japanese War) that Russia's military was not as strong as those of other nations.
  • Russian Civil War, 1918-1919
  • We will win!
  • The workers of Russia began to riot. Since they were organized, they were able to make real reforms. They caused changes in government, including Czar Nicholas abdicating his throne and the Duma taking his place in ruling Russia.
  • Industrial & Agricultural Reforms of Stalin, 1928
  • Vladimir Lenin was a Marxist. He wanted to bring communism to Russia. He created a group of followers called the Bolsheviks, which seized power in Russia. They eliminated the ownership of private property, and made peace with Germany.
  • Stalin's Purges, 1934
  • The Russian Civil War was fought between the Reds (Bolsheviks) and the Whites (Czarists). In the end, The Reds killed Czar Nicholas, who, despite having lost power, was still a rallying point for the Whites. They defeated the White army and consolidated their power.
  • Joseph Stalin took control of Russia after the death of Vladimir Lenin. He moved the government and country toward Totalitarianism. He forced industrialization to grow rapidly, even at an unrealistic rate. He also made all farms into collectives. He eliminated private farms.
  • Russia is MINE!
  • Stalin was a harsh ruler. When he gained power, Stalin killed, or 'purged,' all of the people in the government that opposed him, disagreed with him, or were otherwise considered a threat to his power.
  • Death is the solution to all problems. No man- no problem.
