Family: Kino puts his family first and protects them. Kino also uses and protects the legacy of his family such as the canoe or the songs. The family also has stricit gender based roles.
Wealth and Vaules: Wealth is very highly valued in the book. Every since the pearl was found it is seemed to be worth Coyotito's life.
Love: Throughout the story, Kino and Juana have shown their love for Coyotito. As Coyotito is stung by the scorpion, Kino immediately searches for pearls so he is able to get treatment for him.
Greed: the pearl starts competition because everyone becomes motivated by the money that the pearl is worth. Self interest becomes more prominent than concern for others.
Separation because of wealth and class : The doctor refused to treat Coyotito because of his race and because he was a lower class.
