Storyboard Text

  • Hey cousin flower!   How do we grow?
  • The sun, duh!
  • woahhh!
  • look up there. The sun is composed of hydrogen and helium . In the sun's interior, a thermonuclear fusion reaction converts the hydrogen into helium.
  • Yes, I remember the butterfly saying that the solar heat energy travels through space by electromagnetic waves enabling the transfer of heat through radiation.
  • Then it releases huge amounts of energy. That is how we grow!
  • yes! radiation!  The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves cause ionization.
  • I remember Mr. Butterfly explaining that too! He says all heated objects must emit electromagnetic radiation.
  • We can also stay warm inside  instead of growing outside . It's called a greenhouse!
  • Oh yea! I have friends that live there, they told me that the glass surrounding them keeps them warm.
  • Yep! In here,  the radiation cannot freely escape into space because of absorption in the atmosphere by trace gases such as water vapor and CO2.
  • Wow! I learned so much about how we live and grow and how things on Earth stay warm. Thank you!
