Joe show Shane his property after having a conversation about a fair. "You stick here the day and I'll follow it. I'd like to take you around,show you what I'm doing with the place"(Pg 15). Joe is showing Shane a little bit of confidence by showing him something that he has worked on when Joe could have not shown his work to Shane.
Bob sees the encounter of Joe,Shane and Jake Ledyard when negotiating for a farming tool. "I can figure men for himself. I'll take his word on anything he wants to say any day of God's whole year"(Pg 23). Joe shows his trust towards Shane and how this could help develop their friendship.
Bob describes the scene of Shane and his dad Joe trying to get rid of the tree stump. "Shane,opposite him, stiffened, and together they pushed in a fresh assault. The stump quivered and swayed a little-and hung fixed at its crazy high angle"(Pg 36). Shane is helping Joe solve one of Joe's biggest problems which is getting rid of the tree stump.
