  • Our country elects candidates using the electoral college.
  • How do i elect presidential candidates in this country?
  • The college consist of 538 electors which represent their states people in an election
  • The electoral college is not a place but its a group of people.
  • The people go and vote for who they want to be president and then the electoral college votes afterwards.
  • Each states college takes the winner of the popular vote in their state and gives that candidate all the votes from that college in a winner- take- all vote style.
  • How does the college vote?
  • Only two states, Nebraska and Maine, use a proportional electoral college that gives candidates a proportional amount of votes to how many they received in the popular vote.
  • California, Texas, Florida, and New York are "Swing states" or states that have the most electoral college votes.
  • The number is determined by the population of the state.
  • How do they determine the number of college votes?
  • The winner of the popular vote normally wins the election but it does not always mean that the most popular candidate will win.
  • Because of the winner- take- all election style if a candidate wins the 11 biggest states they can win the election.
