Storyboard Text

  • Election of 1824
  • I have become the new President of the USA!
  • What a corrupt bargain!
  • Adams shouldn't have been elected! We don't respect him!
  • Now I'm Secretary of State!
  • John Quincy Adams' Presidency
  • I can't get anything done with all these people trying to sabotage me!
  • Mudslinging
  • Let's all remember the corrupt bargain that John Quincy Adams made last election!
  • During the Election of 1824, the election had to be decided in the House. John Quincy Adams had Henry Clay help convince the House to vote him to presidency in exchange for Secretary of State. This became known as the corrupt bargain.
  • Two Parties
  • Andrew Jackson is the best! I support him and states' rights!
  • I support John Quincy Adams and a strong federal government!
  • Due to John Quincy Adam and his corrupt bargain to win the election, the nation did not accept him a president. The public tried all they could to undermine Adams' presidency. Because of this, Adams didn't accomplish much as President.
  • Jackson As President
  • More people should gain the right to vote!
  • During the election of 1824, the candidates had started using something that is known as mudslinging, where they would try and get any information to ruin the other candidate's campaign. This is now used in modern elections.
  • Force Bill Over Tariff
  • The election of 1828 gave rise to two parties: the National Republicans, and the Democrats. Jackson's supporters were Democrats and Adams the Republicans. Democrats were like the Democratic-Republicans and Republicans like the Federalists.
  • During Jackson's time as President, a large sense of equality swept over the U.S. as he gave ordinary people a say in government. Also, he allowed ordinary people jobs in government as well.
  • There was a large tariff debate, and the south didn't want to tariff and nullified the act. This outraged Jackson as they were defying the federal government. Because of this he passed the Force Bill, which granted him the power to use the military to get taxes.
  • That's it! These darn stubborn people dare to defy the federal government?
