  • Martin Luther was born in 1483, he entered a monastery and became a monk after he was almost struck by lightning .
  • After reading Saint Paul's epistles he interpreted it as a person who does good and believes in god he called this Justification of Faith.
  • Pope Leo X was trying to raise money by selling indulgences, a piece of paper that people bought from the church to erase their/families sins and salvation.
  • St. Peters Basilica help rebuild!
  • Indulgences for sale!
  • The church is corrupt
  • In 1517, October 3, Martin Luther posted the 95 theses (statements) that criticizing the church and their policies.
  • Indulgences are bad! They don't help!
  • Justification of Faith
  • Pope Leo X responded by banning Luthers works and excommunicating him from the church.
  • NO!
  • A council of German Princes met in the city Worms to bring Luther back to the church; Luther refused to take back his critisms so he was accused as a heretic and hidden in Prince Fredrick of Saxony's castle. While in the castle he also translated the new Testament into german.
