  • The French helped the Americans in the American Revolution against the British. With the support of the French army and navy, the Americans were victorious against the British Empire and gained independence.
  • Reign of Terror
  • Louis XVI, the king of France, spent so much money on his lavish lifestyle and the wars that France had been in. He put France in a national debt, which caused the economy to crash and food prices rose.
  • The Bastille was stormed ion July 14, 1789. It sparked the beginning of the French Revolution. People of the Third Estate stormed the Bastille, a large prison in Paris, and tore it down. The Bastille was a symbol of French power, and the storming put French monarchy at risk.
