  • Hello, my name is Abraham Lincoln. I was the 16th president of the U.S. I was asked to tell you about the 13th Amendment. It was presented to the House of Representatives following the end of the Civil War.
  • Inside a slave house
  • One day we will be free.
  • Inside the House of Representative
  • They should be free because no one should be a enslaved and considered to be property.
  • Today we here to talk about why the slaves should be free. What do you guys think?
  • Delaware, Kentucky , and Mississippi
  • All but three of the remaining states had ratified it by 1870. Two of those would not ratify it until the second half if the 20th century.
  • Cotton field: somewhere in the south
  • Yay! We're free!
  • House of Representative December 1863 and January 1864
  • There were two bills that were introduced into the House of Representatives, all making similar proposals for a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery.
