Hello kids, today we are going to talk about rocks
Earth has two ways for cycling it's materials: uplift and subduction.
Uplift is the vertical movement of Earth's surface and Subduction is the process in which one of two tectonic plates move below the other.
The Earth has two types of energy, one from the sun and one from it's interior. The energy from the Earth drives the tectonic plates and the energy from the sun causes weathering
There are three types of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous.
To identify sedimentary rocks you have to determine the sorting, there are two classes of sorting: well sorted and poorly sorted, both are based in how large their variances are. One example of this rock is sandstone
There are two classes of metamorphic rocks: foliated and non- foliated. Foliation forms when pressure aplies within a rock and the minerals become aligned. One example of this rock is Marble
There are two types of igneous rocks: Extrusive and Intrusive. Extrusive rocks form at Earth's surface and Intrusive rocks form below it's surface. One example of this rock is Basalt.
Well kids, these are all the important things you need to know about rocks, I hope you payed attention because there is going to be a quiz tomorrow !
