Setting- Herot, Mead Hall Situation: Grendel has been attacking the Danes who fall asleep in the Mead Hall Characters: Hrothgar, Danes, Grendel
When Beowulf hears the cries from Hrothgar over the conflict with Grendel, he journies over to Herot.
Beowulf, the protagonist, intends to fight Grendel, the antagonist.
After defeating Grendel's mother, Beowulf searches for Grendel's body to take back to the surface.
Beowulf returns to the surface with Grendel's head and the hilt of the giant's sword. Herot is finally safe from Grendel
The theme of Beowulf is that our identity is influenced by the legacy our family left for us. This can be seen through Beowulf introducing himself as the son of his father rather than just Beowulf, as well as through Grendel following his parents evil ways and wreaking havoc to Herot.
