Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469, 40 miles away from a Pakistani city, Lahore. He was born a Hindu, but also showed some great interest in Islam and Hinduism.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji showed advanced interest in religion from a young age and studied Hinduism and Islam thoroughly. He was a talented poet and philosopher.
One famous story about Guru Nanak was from when he was 11 and refused to wear a Hindu sacred thread saying that people should be distinguished by qualities not a thread.
He worked as an accountant for a period of his life , but he wanted to study spiritual matters and wanted to find the true nature of god by meditating.
Unknown to his peers, Guru Nanak went to a river to meditate, but went underwater and stayed there for 3 days, then emerging and saying that there is no Hindu or Muslim.
Guru Nanak was married and had a family in 1496, but still had some spiritual journeys through India, Tibet and Arabia that lasted 30 years.
