Storyboard Text

  • Hello, today we're going to talk about the Underground  Railroad, and no it's not an actual railroad.
  • It was a network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved people in order to escape slaves states and into free states.
  • The "conductor", posing as a slave, would enter a plantation,.
  • Psst. I'm a conductor.
  • The fugitives, runaway slave, would move at night  when everyone was asleep.
  • Hurry up.  This is our only chance.
  • They would travel between 10-20 miles to the next station, where they would rest and eat, hiding in barns and other places.
  • I'm so exhausted.
  • While they waited, a message would be sent to the next station to alerts its station master.
  • Sir, we just recieved a message from the station. They would arrive tonight.
  • Fugitives also traveled by train or boat, and donations came from wealthy abolitionist, people who see slavery as wrong.
  • That's all. Hope you liked it. -Darla Castillo
