  • Macbeth, a brave and loyal warrior of Scotland, had won the battle together with Banquo against the Norwegians.
  • So foul and fair a day I have not seen!
  • Macbeth and Banquo met the three witches, and the witches' predictions confused Macbeth.
  • Act 1 scene 3
  • All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! 
  • All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! 
  • All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! 
  • Were such things here as we do speak about? 
  • Duncan rewarded Macbeth as the Thane of Cowdor and sent Ross to bring the news. Macbeth and Banquo are shocked because it matched with the witches' prediction.
  • Act 1 scene 3
  • What, can the devil speak true?
  • Duncan bade me, from him, call thee thane of Cawdor!
  • Lady Macbeth received the letter from Macbeth about the news, and she planned to make Macbeth the king as soon as possible.
  • Act 1 scene 5
  • Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be What thou art promised.
  • When Macbeth got home, he informed her that Duncan is coming over for the night.

  • My dearest love, Duncan comes here tonight. 
  • Great Glamis, worthy Cawdor, Greater than both, by the all-hail hereafter!
  • Lady Macbeth told Macbeth about the thought of murdering Duncan, just so Macbeth could become the King.
