  • Although people started to think that slavery was wrong, the Southern slave owners wanted to keep their slaves. So the North and South went to war in 1865.
  • We want to be FREE!
  • All of you are ours!
  • The North won the war and slavery in the South ended in 1865 but black people in the South did not have the same rights as white people.
  • Get out! You are can not study here!
  • Go away!
  • No black people in my school
  • However, blacks began to play a more important part in the life of America like the great black runner Jesse Owens who won gold medals for America at the 1936 Olympic Games
  • That's my boy!
  • I can't believe it
  • You pride us!
  • Oh my God! I won!
  • You are the best!
  • When America entered the Second World War, black soldiers fought for their country but they did not fight beside white soldiers and they were not treated as well as white soldiers.
  • Yes, he's right
  • Why is there not white soldiers?
  • Because we are black!
  • After the war the problems continued...
  • We have the same job but we get much less money than white Americans
  • In 1948 President Truman ended the discrimination in the army
  • No more racism!
