Storyboard Text

  • Capable of Deeds of Great Strength and Courage
  • “…and was instantly seized himself, claws bent back as Beowulf leaned up on one arm. That shepherd of evil, guardian of crime, knew at once that nowhere on earth had he met a man whose hands were harder; his mind was flooded with fear – but nothing could take his talons and himself from that tight hard grip.”
  • “If weapons were useless he’d use his hands, the strength in his fingers.”
  • Travels Over A Vast Setting
  • “He who had come to them from across the sea…”
  • “Whose soldiers are you, you who’ve been carried in your deep-keeled ship across the sea-road to this country of mine?”
  • “…would sail across the sea to Hrothgar, now when help was needed.”
  • Faces Supernatural Forces and/or Receives Supernatural Help
  • “…strong and blessed with their magic, the best of all weapons but so massive that no ordinary man could lift its carved and decorated length. He drew it from its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt, and then, savage, now, angry and desperate, lifted it high over his head and struck with all the strength he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all.”
  • Beowulf possess great strength and courage making him an epic hero. Throughout the story there are many quotes like the ones above that display this.
  • There are many occasions in the story that mention how Beowulf travels from across the sea from some land far far away
  • Some Examples of supernatural aid in the story are his superhuman strength (ex. ripping Grendel's arm off) and the use of magic in the form of the magic sword used to kill Grendel's mother
