Sultan Ahmad I Al Mnsur Saadi wanted to control the gold mines and he wanted to establish himself the Caliph of Sudan.

Askia Ishaq II was killed in 1591 by Taureg people , they betrayed Askia as they were allied with the Morrocans.
Morrocans withdrew from the Songhai Empire in 1661 as they faced some problems, they had several rebeliions and resistance, also they had shortage of supplies, all these problems led them to take the decision to withdraw.
