  •              After Askia Muhammad's death In 1528, Songhai had a period of peace and prosperity, Gao, Timbuktu, and Djenne were large cities for trade and commerce, this peace ended in a civil war in 1591, which created a chance for the Moroccons to send an army to conquer Songhai.
  • The Battle Of Tondibi
  • Morocco Sultan Ahmad Al Mnsur Saadi sent an army, he ordered to conquer Songhai so that he can control the West - African gold mines.
  • The Death Of Askia Ishaq II
  • Sultan Ahmad I Al Mnsur Saadi wanted to control the gold mines and he wanted to establish himself the Caliph of Sudan.
  • The Moroccans Withdrawal 
  • It is sad to return back to Morocco and leave the gold mines.
  • The Moroccans face the forces of Askia Ishaq II in the battle of Tondibi in 1591, Askia II was the last Songhai emperor.

  • Askia Ishaq II was killed in 1591 by Taureg people ,  they betrayed Askia as they were allied with the Morrocans.
  • Morrocans withdrew from the Songhai Empire in 1661 as they faced some problems, they had several rebeliions and resistance, also they had shortage of supplies, all these problems led them to take the decision to withdraw.
