  • Antigone is telling Ismene she will stop at no lengths to bury her brother, even if she has to break the law to do it.
  • Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you come? (31)
  • Bury him! You have just said the new law forbids it (32).
  • Creon has just found out someone has broken his law and buried the body he told them not to. He is now demanding someone find whoever did it.
  • And the man who dared do this? (78)
  • New dust on the slimy flesh (75).
  • Antigone denies none of what she did because she believes she did the right thing when it comes to the law of God and Creon is not about him.
  • She was burying him, I tell you! (18)
  • I deny nothing (52). It was not just God's proclamation. That final Justice that rules the world below makes no such laws (57-58).
  • You are guilty (105).
  • Antigone is telling Ismene she can not be punished with her because she did not help her.
  • you shall not lessen my death by sharing it (139).

  • Haemon, Creon's son, in this scene is telling Creon he has no right to make laws that God didn't make. Creon then gets angry and blames his son's comment on a girl.

  • Creon learns that he disobeyed God's law and now is being punished for it because both his wife and son are dead because of the law he made.
  • I killed my son and my wife. I look for comfort; my comfort lies here dead (135-136).
  • Haemon is dead (19). The queen is dead (102).
