  • James Madison
  • Impressment and Native American Resistance
  • Great Lake Battles
  • James Madison was the fourth president of the United States. He served from 1808-1816. While he was in office he asked Congress for a declaration of war.
  • Fort McHenry
  • Impressment was when British (read coats) would board American trade ships and capture the Americans to put them in their Navy. The Native American Resistance was when the Natives helped the British and attacked the settlers.
  • Battle of New Orleans
  • Oliver Hazard Perry took command over the Navy in Lake Erie. It was a hard fought battle but Oliver and the Navy defeated the British.
  • American Industry
  • The British lay siege on fort McHenry but the U.S was prepared. During the battle Francis Scott Key, a prisoner on a British ship, saw a American Flag still standing after very long war. So he wrote a poem that is now our national anthem today.
  • Andrew Jackson leads 7,000 U.S troops against 7,500 British troops. He kills 2,000 British troops and the British retreat. The U.S wins and Andrew Jackson becomes a War Hero.
  • Now that the U.S and England don't trade anymore the American Industry grows.
