  • Dailyn, Get up Saturday chores or no tv
  • Yeah but I don't feel like it
  • Didn't your mom say do your chores
  • Dailyn's mom is shouting for her to wake up to do Saturday chores. The arrows demonstrate the sound wave coming form her mother's mouth to her ears. A sound wave is an example of a mechanical wave. Her mom's vocal chords is the source and the medium is the air in the room. The vibration from her vocal chords disturbs the particles in the medium(air). In a chain effect those particles disturb the ones next to them etc. The disturbance creates a wave traveling outward. The waves carry the energy through the air in most directions
  • Hey Meena my brothers is inside
  • Dailyn goes down stairs to heat up some leftover pizza from last nights dinner. She uses the microwave. A microwave uses radio frequency radiation to heat up your food. Microwaves cause water and fat molecules to vibrate which makes your food hot. This is an example of a non visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum cause we cannot see the radio frequency waves.
  • BEEP!!
  • As she heats up her food she listens to her favorite songs with headphones. Like microwave ovens phones use radio frequency waves to transmit sound through the microphone and speaker. That energy is a type of electromagnetic wave.
  • As she goes outside she notices that the sun was really hot and she started to perspire. The sun is the dominant source of visible light waves which our eyes can see. Radiation from the sun aka sunlight is a mix of infrared to ultraviolet on the spectrum. The energy travels in rays kind of like straight lines as indicated by the black lines. The sun radiates energy in all directions in equal amounts
  • As she takes a walk around the neighborhood she notices the chatter around her from the neighborhood kids. Their voices producing sound waves which are vibrating the air particles and creating waves which travel to her ears. Then a car zooms past her.And beeps the horn at a kid who runs out in the street. As Dailyn heard the beep the frequency and pitch sounded low. The woman in the drivers seat heard the same pitch because she is moving with the the truck. But to the redheaded boy in front of the vehicle the frequency and sound of the pitch seemed high. As the vehicle passed it was moving in the reverse direction of the sound waves.
  • Dailyn arrives home a little bit before dark after playing with the neighborhood kids. She turns on the TV and soon after her brother joins her. They flip through channels for a good 5 minutes The remote control she is using uses light waves just beyond the spectrum of visible light (infrared light waves) to change channels. Once they found the right channel they watched TV until dinner was ready. The sound from the TV can produce sound waves . The TV is the source and it disturbs the particles and it makes them vibrate. The vibration turns into an outward wave. The arrows in a circle demonstrate the wave coming from the source going to their ears
