Warning of the Flood and Preparation for the Flood Gn 6:5-22 By: Dayanara Garza
The main idea/important event in Gn 6:5-22 is that sin has gotten out of control and God wants to put a stop to it. The first thing that happens is that God recognizes that all people are doing in committing sins. He tells Noah that he will destroy human beings and all creations made, including the earth because nothing good has been done. Next, God tells Noah to build an ark for him and his family to stay protected because God was bringing the flood waters onto the earth. Noah did not get punished like the rest because he was always walking with God, meaning he was always obeying God, unlike the others. Finally, Noah took one male and one female of every kind of creation to the ark with him, including his family because God told him to. This was done to keep all those going with Noah alive. A life lesson we can learn from this passage is to stop sins before it gets out of control.
"When God saw how corrupt the earth had become, since all mortals had corrupted their ways on earth, God said to Noah: I see that the end of all mortals has come, for the earth is full of lawlessness because of them. So I am going to destroy them with the earth," (Gn 6:12-13)
"Make yourself an ark of gopherwood, equip the ark with various compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch," (Gn 6:14)
"I will establish my covenant with you. You shall go into the ark, you and your sons, your wife and your sons' wives with you. Of all living creatures you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, one male and one female, to keep them alive along with you," (Gn 6:18-19)
