Storyboard Text

  • Initial Dialogue
  • "Primrose Everdeen!" (Collins 20)
  • Propels the Action by...
  • “"I volunteer!" I gasp. "I volunteer as tribute!"” (Collins 22)
  • ""Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark! I give you the tributes of District Twelve!" (Collins 338)
  • Outcome
  • In Panem, all of the districts had to sacrifice two tributes to the Hunger Games each year to fight to the death. During the reaping, Effie (middle) picks Katniss' (left) sister, Prim (right), gets selected to be a tribute in the Games.
  • Initial Dialogue
  • ""Well, there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I’m pretty sure she didn’t know I was alive until the reaping."" (Collins 129)
  • Prim (left) is only twelve years old and is the most important thing to Katniss (right), so she volunteers in her place. This action leads to the whole rest of the storyline of the book.
  • Propels the Action by...
  • "“You’re not going to die. I forbid it. All right?”" (Collins 256)
  • If Katniss hadn’t volunteered, she wouldn’t have been a tribute, gone to the Capitol, had a worldwide known on-screen romance with Peeta, got an eleven on her scored training, killed people in the Games, won the entire thing with Peeta, and started a nationwide fight against the Capitol, President Snow, and the Games.
  • Outcome
  • "“Maybe . . . because for the first time . . . there was a chance I could keep him,” I say." (Collins 360)
  • Before the Games, each tribute has an interview with Caesar Flickerman (right). During Peeta's ( interview, he confesses his love for Katniss but says that they could never be together because there is only one winner of the Games.
  • This confession intrigues everyone with the star-crossed lovers from District 12. Everyone is in love with the two and want them to stay together at all costs.
  • Because of how much attention Katniss and Peeta’s romance is getting, the Gamemakers decide to add a rule that two people from the same district can both win. In the end, they then both survive and win the Games. Also, if it weren’t for their romance, they wouldn’t have gotten any sponsors and Peeta would have died of his leg infection.
