Media Project : This storyboard shortly describes the life story of Mariatu Kumara which i had read in her book " THE BITE of the MANGO ".

  • We will chop off your hands , then we will let you go to ask the president to give you new hands
  • If you are going to chop off my hands ,please just kill me 
  • Climax
  • Mariatu, you are pregnant!
  • What does pregnant mean?
  • Mariatu was around 7 years old when she moved to live with her aunt in a small village in Sierra Leone. She was strong enough to plant and harvest food on farm every morning and carry plastic jugs of water on her head. 
  • Falling Action
  • We are journalists want to interview and take pictures of amputees from the war, would you accept to be one of them?
  • Maritau, hurry up we need to harvest our farm
  • Amputees' Camp
  • War had come to Sierra Leone,and violent rebels who were destroying villages and killing people were headed toward Sierra Leone and chop off hands of most of people were living there and Mariatu was one of them. Rebels had released Mariatu after chopping off her hands.

  • Mariatu was able to reach Freetown where the rebels had not invaded yet. People helped her to approach hospital to treat her arms. She was shocked when the doctor informed her that she is pregnant and she didn't even know what that word means.

  • Welcome to Canada Mariatu, I will introduce you to Kadi, She is from Sierra Leone too.
  • Some Journalists had visited the amputees' camp where Mariatu had lived with her son and family. Journalists asked Mariatu for an interview to let the world knows about her suffering from Rebels and the war. After few months her son was sick of malnutrition and he couldn't survive. Mariatu was feeling guilty, bad and disappointed.
  • What will i get out of this interview?
  • May be someone will read about you and send you money.
  • After a while a social worker had visited the camp carrying a message for Mariatu from a man in Canada. he was sending Mariatu some clothes and money every month.  At Last Bill decided to take Mariatu to Canada, the social worker helped Mariatu to fill all paper works needed and they both had traveled to Canada.
  • A man from Canada called "Bill" wants to find the girl he read about in a newspaper article.
  • Is he taking me to Canada?
  • Once Mariatu arrived Canada, she studied English and graduated from ESL school with diploma and started her high school. Some Journalists encouraged Mariatu to write a book for her life events. She traveled back to Sierra Leone to fact-check the book and got a chance to meet the president and speak with him for all people of Sierra Leone who are not being heard.
