Good Morning Class! Today we will learn about gravity. Now what is gravity? Gravity is when an objects are being pulled together by a force. Now let´s provide some examples to what gravity is. An example of gravity is the force that causes a ball you throw in the air to come down again.
Another thing I will be teaching you about is mass and distance. The force of gravity between objects increases with greater mass and decreases with greater distance. Mass is the amount of matter in an object. An example of mass is a 100kg man weighs 980N on Earth. The astronaut´s mass is 100kg where-ever they are. An example of distance is when you are at one end of a race and your friend is at the other end. The space betwwen you guys is the distance between you guys.
The last thing I will be teaching you guys is about weight and how gravity is used to find weight. Weight is the force exerted on a person or object to a planet´s surface. Weight = Mass x Acceleration due to Gravity. Weight is measured in Newtons. Weight varies with the strength of the gravitational force. Suppose you weighed yourself on Earth to be 420 Newtons. Then you traveled to the moon and weighed 70 pounds. You would weigh less on the moon because the moon´s mass is only a fraction of the Earth´s. That´s all for today class!
