Douglass leaves and heads to the farm taking the route that Sandy gave him. Along this route Douglass gained his courage and belief that he could stand up to Covey when he got back. Douglass stops and rest a few times since it’s a long walk back. Douglass then arrived at the farm expecting what was to happen next was him going to be whipped and that’s exactly what happened.
Covey said “COME HERE” yelling at Douglass to come to him. Covey whacked Douglass once then the second time Douglass blocked it. Covey said “What are you doing?”. “I’m tired of being whipped” Douglass said looking Covey in the eye. Then they both charged at each other taking one another to the ground. They wrestled, kicked, and punched each other until Douglass got up off the ground before Covey did.
Douglass glared down at Covey. Douglass says “Don’t ever try to whip me again.”. Covey gets up off the ground as Douglass walks away and says “Remind me never to mess with him again or I’m gonna hurt him real bad". Later that day Douglass thinks about the fight, he says “I will never think or act like a slave again after this day.” “For I will never let another white man push me around or whip me again.”.
